1. You don’t have to be the BEST to be successful.

Let’s be honest. Bobby Shmurda isn’t exactly the BEST rapper out there. After all he rhymed nigga with niggas just only 8 times in his first verse alone… but that didn’t stop him from blowing up Vine in 2014 and dominating the charts.

If you look at Shmurda’s history, he started rapping in 2004 and only blew up in 2014. He became a huge hit without previous hits or record industry connections. Many of you guys say, “I’m not good enough to do that”Don’t let the thought of not being good enough control you. Just focus on being good enough for now and you’ll get better with practice. Life will throw you opportunities as long as you let yourself become lucky.

2. Use what you have around you

Rappers are always trying to ball out with cars, women, and jewelry in their music videos. In Hot Nigga, you see the complete opposite. Especially being Shmurda’s first video, he couldn’t afford all that fancy shit. So what did he have access to? A camera, the homies, catchy one liners, and the infamous shmoney dance. Other than making his hat magically disappear, Shmurda also brings a hard hype energy to his music. Hot Nigga is a great way to get turnt the fuck up and conquer the world.

That’s the beauty the Hot Nigga video. Sometimes you don’t need fancy shit. Instead of saying “I can’t be successful because I don’t have  ____”, think how do you make the most of what you have already. The truth is you’ll never have everything. For example, I could commute to work using helicopter to avoid LA traffic, but I don’t have a helicopter. Instead I listen to e-books or catch up on music to make the time go by.

3. Nothing lasts forever

Shmurda was on the top of the world. Beyonce and Rihanna were doing the shmoney dance at their performances. Major hip hop artists like Meek Mill and French Montana were making remixes. It didn’t last long though. As soon as Shmurda blew up and signed his deal with Epic Records, he was charged with plans to commit murder, reckless endangerment, and gun possession.  Next thing you know Shmurda is locked up… who knows when he’ll be free again.

Sometimes we get caught up with life… it happens to all of us. Just remember what might be here today, might will be gone one day. Who knows get hit by a car or diagnosed with cancer? Even though we all go through tough shit, sometimes just stop for a second and think about what you’re grateful for. It’ll make the situation easier to cope with.

I’ll end this post with a quote from Bobby Shmurda from jail, which you can find here.

“Keep your head up. Everybody goes through tough times and good times. You know what, tough times don’t last forever. I say, God makes his toughest battles for his strongest soldiers.”
