Why is this difficult?

Figuring out your life seems to be straight forward and simple… at least in theory. In most cases “all you need to do” is figure out what like and “just go for it”. But it’s actually pretty difficult to do.

Why?

There are three main reasons that I’ve been able to identify. Let me show you what they are.

First… there’s ENDLESS possibilities.

Have you ever been to Cheesecake factory?

Their menu is like the freaking bible. When you’re choosing what to eat, your hands get sweaty.

And the pressure is on because your server is giving you the “stank eye” because they want you to GTFO.

Why is it so hard?

First no one wants to order the “wrong” thing. Just like the Cheesecake Factory menu, your life has endless possibilities of what to choose from.

But instead of a crappy meal, you’re risking being miserable for the rest of your life. Morbid much?

So instead we stay stuck trying to figure it out.

This is called “analysis paralysis”, where you spend so much time trying to find the “perfect” answer, that you get burnt out an do nothing.

We’re so scared of getting it “wrong” that we fail to make any decision at all.

Second… “figuring it” out forces you to get specific.

So what this means is that, if I ask you right now, what do you want to do with the rest of your life?, you start listing off everything.

….from your dream of opening up a boba shop to becoming a bitcoin billionaire.

The truth is we can’t do everything at once.Life can be pretty cruel sometimes. Since we only have 24 hours in a day, we need to choose just one thing.

And no lie. This is pretty daunting. How can we make our decision making easier?

Let’s take a look at In N Out. Compared to Cheesecake Factory, it’s a very simple menu, but you know every single item will be good.

Knowing that there is no wrong choice, makes ordering much easier. So what does this have to do with figuring out your life?

Well if we can focus on narrowing down the selection like an In N Out menu, then it makes choosing much easier.

Even more importantly, we can take action much quicker.

Third… You have to answer a tough question.

At the end of the day, it’s hard coming up with an answer.

One of the hardest things is accepting that there’s a possibility of being wrong with your decisionespecially knowing that there could be consequences.

It’s your life after all.

But maybe we’re looking at it the wrong way. Instead of looking at it like you’re losing something, you could look at it like your getting data of what works and what doesn’t work out for you.

Since we’re using food examples, let’s say you “fucked up” and got a really shitty food order. Well now you know not to order that dish again. It’s not the end of the world LOL.

And at the end of the day, you can always order something else.

The same thing goes with figuring out, your life.

As you complete the worksheet, you’re just compiling a list of potential good ideas. As you cross them off one by one, you’ll get closer to finding the truth.

So how do you know if your idea is good?

If you find something that you might be interested in, how do you know if your idea is good?

Like for example, let’s say if opening a boba shop or becoming a doctor is your passion, are you really going to go for broke and go in massive debt?

Just like yelping a restaurant to see what’s good, you should probably get the opinions of other people before going balls deep and blowing mad money.

And that’s what this worksheet is meant for… a starting point.

Now that I covered the three common mistakes with finding out what you wanna do, it’s your turn to start brainstorming your passion with the worksheet I put together.
